Hey all, I was just directed here from reddit.com/r/motorcycles by Elmo, and J wanted to join in. I'm a member at the other forum as well but why not both? I've got a 2011 FZ8 that I bought as my first motorcycle last March. I put about 3000 miles on it last season (silly College and that one pesky crash getting in the way) and I'm looking forward to more saddle time, and a track day or two this year. Here it is fresh off the lot last yea. - imgur.com/dF2BK7h. Last week my Dad and I installed a yoshi r77, heres the in-process pic from that -http://imgur.com/lHBEAwk. This seems like a fun place, I'm excited to join!

I'm initially from Westchester, NY and I went to school up near Albany, NY at RPI (tech school for mech engineering). I work at UTC Aerospace now, which brings me to CT! I didn't find anyone to ride with last season, so I'm hoping to find some people in my area for this season. And thanks for the official welcome!

Welcome! You'll find this site is far and above the other place. What wind screen are you running? I'm using the puig new generation windscreen, dark smoke. I've had it on for a while now and it takes a lot of wind buffeting off the chest. The problem for me at least is it makes the wind noise louder. I wear ear plugs when I ride so its not the worst, but sometimes its frustrating.

Welcome. That is awesome that you and your Dad can do projects like that together. I used to have a ball with my Dad breaking everything and then fixing them. Enjoy that bike, be safe! Yeah, the projects are a lot of fun. Riding with my parents is even more fun though =) Their the ones that got me into it, and also the ones who helped give me that final push over the edge when it came to buying the bike. My Mom's got the most bikes out of all of us lol - New Ducati scrambler (picking up in May), an old RD350 2-stroke we need to fix up, and a 500cc cruiser of some sort... the cruiser is pretty terrible and she knows it which is why she went and bought the bike she had as a teenager on eBay, and then of course my Dad and I somehow convinced her to also get the Ducati =)

I'm 90% sure shes going with the Icon, and then she'll probably get some farkles like a windscreen and bags to make it a little comfier on longer rides. Yeah its a lot of fun riding with them! Their both not too into going fast anymore, but still love twisties. Funny story - when I first got my bike my dad wanted to try it out. He came back from a ~15 min ride on some twisty roads raving about how fast and stable the bike was. My mom made him stop talking because she didn't want to hear about him going 70 in a 45 zone lol

Fix that RD350 - If you haven't ridden it... get some boysen reeds/cages and blocks for the intake side. Once that little fucker gets past the long clutch slip and hits the powerband....your eyes wont be able to focus, the demon wail from the expansion chamber out the pipe will make you giggle like a school girl and may pee yourself a little. LOVE 2 strokes.
You would be very surprised to know it makes maybe 40 HP but it hits you like a roundhouse kick.! Do some head milling, reshape the squish area, open the exhaust port and you can get 85hp.
Everything you need for an RD is here: www.spec2.com/index2.html That company is legendary for all things RZ and RD.
you have an awesome family there young man!
Thanks for the website! The only thing that needs actual fixing is the front brake (brake lines and/or pistons leak oil onto the rotor... super sketchy), other than that its in amazing shape. I rode it quick around the block when she got it and it has a crazy kick, and the sound! Like a very angry overgrown bee.

A hot upgrade is to mount FZ600 frontend, and the FZ600 swingarm - that allows mounting of the FZ 17" wheels so that premium rubber can be mounted and the frontend is a lot more stable. Weld a plate into the area on the frame that attaches to the steering tube to add strength.
Loved my RD's I had a 250E, 400E and a 350LC. That Elsie was nucking futs at the time. Micron Spannies, Boysen's and boy did it howl.
