-R1 or FZ1 rear shock assembly

For the throttle tube..go to a local Yamaha dealer..they should have them in stock and on the shelf.
For fz1 or r1 parts..best to join one of the fz1 or r1 forums...I joined 998cc.com or whatever it is and made a wanted post for a shock..got a few replies within a few days.

Two questions:
Does the R6 throttle tube and the PVC mod accomplish the same thing?
Looks like the 04-08 R1 shock is the way to go. From what I can tell the 09+ requires additional modification and changes ride height. Is this correct?

From what I can tell the 09+ requires additional modification and changes ride height. Is this correct? As of March 2015 satan himself posted developing version 5 of the adapter was in hold. That would be the adapter that would work with the 09 and newer R1 shocks (on the fz1 not sure it's gonna work on the fz8). So yes the 04-08 is the way to go. With the fz8 there is still minor modification required to the regulator tray to mount the shock (regardless of year). As mentioned above dan's how to does a great job of illustrating it all. Basically hack off part of the tray and drill a new mounting bolt for the regulator, or the other option is to loose the tray and zip tie the regulator. I opted for modifying. Yeah the PVC mod and r1 throttle accomplish the same thing...less twist of the wrist to WOT. Really is a nice cheap way to improve the ride. I went with the new throttle tube from amazon. Others swear by the PVC as doing the same thing for less. I also got new grips, as the r6 grip is different. However if I was leaving the grips stock(got some driven grippy grips) the minor pattern difference wouldn't have bothered me in hindsight. |

Appreciate the response, I just ordered the throttle tube and a set of Grippy's as well, which were $1 less for both sides than just 1 for another OEM Yamaha. Rear shock is next. Thanks again! |
