In December 2014, they took the long route to diagnosing a bad coil and replaced the ECU. Before they figured out it was the coil, they replaced the ECU, this is the original ECU that came stock in my bike. Tank Bag is in really good condition. The plastic map cover is a little scuffed, and one of the small inside pocket has a 1/4 inch tear at the left edge of the zipper seam on the nylon interior. see the pic. The yamaha lettering is coming off the handle. It's never seen a drop of rain.

That's crazy that they actually handed you a "defective" ECU. Even if it really isn't defective. I wonder if it could be used for a re-flash and actually work correctly. I know that if a hard drive is defective, it is no longer safe and is literally dangerous to a computer. Not trying to scare anyone away, I just know about PC and Mac hard drives and have seen some fail a slow and painful death. We wouldn't want anyone to be unsafe.

The shop couldn't diagnose the issue - all the tests came back within range, so they defaulted to the ECU. Yamaha came in and examined all the tests as well. They provided a new ECU, installed it and the problem was still there. That proves it wasnt the ECU.

So you are insinuating my ECU isn't safe? I believe an ECU is 'solid state'? I wasn't aware that it has moving parts in it like a hard drive. I don't know too many pc's designed to travel at speeds. .yes it electrical, but its not the same. I'll put it back into my 8 and sell the fucking one that's in there now... and it sure as fuck won't be to you. Thanks for tanking my sale.

If it's no different than who cares? Discussing the safety of a critical component to the bike should not tank anything.

ecu are actually like flash based. There not solid state or platter style information transfer. SSD isnt quite there in quality yet for a vehicle manf. and platter or standard hd cant handle the shock.
Usually a ecu fails when a circuit on the board fries..or somebody fucks up a flash and locks it out.
If you were going to try flashing a ecu by your own hand id buy the spare ecu. If you were turbo joe or a tuner like that you could buy it and sell a ecu "with your selection of preinstalled tune"

If they buy the ecu its cause they want to mess around with flashing them selves amd give it a shot

Just wanted to know, also figured it would be good for anyone considering purchasing to know it was an ECU bone stock and still functional. Since it was a part of a warranty deal, we got mechanics and me in warranty all surprised you got that part back so we wanted to know how/why. BTW thanks.
