We did not get those here in the states. The cruiser fad was just taking off and we were given the LTD models. They were just as fast but had a cruiser style to them. Kawasaki and Suzuki sold a butt load of this type of bike. These really ate into Harley's sales and they got the government to put a tariff on all imported motorcycles over 700cc. I believe it lasted about 4 years. This was to give Harley time to rebuild their manufacturing and build a better motorcycle, the Evolution series. This is why if you look at older bikes you see a lot of 700 models. The first Yamaha Fazer was a 700. It was a beautiful little bike too.  Here is the Fazer. It had the 5 valve head and a 16 inch front tire. The front brake calipers pivot and which pushed a pin into the valving of the front forks to reduce dive. Earlier this year a matched pair of them showed up in my neighborhood. They both look brand new. I see them from time to time but have yet to talk to the owners.  |
