We all ride for the same reasons. We all ride for different reasons. As of today, I find myself thinking about different bikes, but at the same time I have to consider the 8 the ideal bike for me. I'm sure that at some point in the future the 8 might not be so ideal.
What makes the 8 right for me is the fact that when I bought it, I had not been on a motorcycle in over 38 years. When shopping for a bike, I found myself looking hard at the liter bikes, but I also knew my lack of experience + a really fast bike would get me killed. I know, I know, if you don't follow the rules, the 8 can kill you too.
Today anyway, I have a bike that has good speed (not exceptional), has good handling, and has a comfortable riding position (we won't discuss the seat). Until some other day, I will enjoy the 8. For those with more experience than I, and know what they want - I say go for it.

Personally I can't see ever selling the 8. She's my baby. I can see turning her into a show bike down the rode if I can ever afford a Ducati Diavel. We all love riding we just enjoy different styles of riding. I might change my mind on the future additional bike I'll get once I experience track days. As of now I've never ridden on a track so I don't know. There is a local group of riders that is open minded to all bike types and does a lot of track days.

If its just a power issue then why not swap the engine, but if its just a tired of the bike issue then get rid of it and get what you want. Be a shame to lose another 8 though.
however a second bike would allow the 8 for commuting and a sportbike for thrashing the twisties!

It does take a while to swap over especially if you change the master cylinder and run different front guard and lighter bash plate, gearing etc etc

You dont have to worry too much about gearing cause the difference in wheel size makes up for it a little but in saying that you leave a plus 2 sprocket on you dirt wheels. Generally depending on the bike / brake setup the hardest part is the front wheel with spacers and caliper brackets and shit. Not hard. Just annoying. Just if your looking at getting a bike to do both, your better off buying the dirt version than buying the motard kit for it because if you buy the factory motard they sometimes run bigger forks so different triples but almost always run larger front disc and caliper which wont go onto a dirt wheel.

Maybe look at a wr250r as you can buy the 250x motard gear pretty cheap.

The 250 will be ear splitting on Brens commute though, fair bit of motorway riding.

The 250 will be ear splitting on Brens commute though, fair bit of motorway riding. if your doing a lot of hi way riding you prob don't want a motard. But the yam 250 has a 6 speed box and injected. At 100kmh they're actually not that bad.

Well gents... Today I signed a contract to trade in the 8 for the Suzuki dzr400 super motard! Same colour as dooms beast... Was a tough choice but I really wanted to try a different style of bike.. I a, awaiting my finance approval, but it won't be a problem.. Should be signing documents tomorrow..
