Hello I'm not new to bikes as I've had 18 bikes in 20 years most of them dual sports or dirtbikes but I am a huge fan of naked sportbikes as I've had a couple Z1000's already. I have never had a new bike but currently am very much in between wanting a FZ-07 or an FZ8? I have nothing but research on the new FZ-07 which I thought I was 100% ready to jump on until I came across an ad on Craigslist at a dealership for a new 2013 FZ8 for $5,999. I called and the dealer is offering OTD for $5,999 if I'd commit. So here I have a bike that gets 39mpg, fits me a bit better I think with my 6' tall 220 lb frame, and looks good. Or I can go for a FZ-07 that I have test rode and like very much and know it's up for bike of the year which gets 58mpg and also looks great but fits a little so so around the gas tank area? So I saw this sight and thought why not give it a try! Amy helpful info is highly encouraged as I'm swaying more to the bigger bike even though it's not power I'm going for but more what fits me better and also the seat seams to feel more comfy sitting on it.

The 7 is a tiny parallel twin. will have a ton of torque down low but shit up top. This question really depends on what type of riding you mostly do. The 7 compared to the 8 to me, 8 all the way. Especially for the price of the 8. Now the 8 does have a few issues, but its a great sized bike, good power, and a ton of room for mods. I just think the 7 you will get bored with pretty quick. Did you look at a new FZ09?
For the price I would def jump on the 8 without hesitation!!!!!!!!

The 7 is a little fella. My opinion is go with the 8. Since you had a z1000 the 7 would be like a girls bike compared.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Z100 is like what 120hp. Even the 8 is gonna be modest compared to that stock.
Z1000- 120-140 hp and 70-80 ft lbs torque depending on year of bike. FZ07- 75hp and 50ft lbs torque FZ8- wasn't it like 100hp and 60ft lbs?

I had a Corbin on my Z1000's along with a custom gel seat and both were good for only 50 miles before butt pain started to kick in. As far as powere goes as long as I can not get run over on the interstate and be able to pass cars is my main concern since all bikes will do 100 mph no problem I just want to make sure the FZ-07 will do that and I know the fz8 has no problem. The forum for the FZ-07 said no problem on the interstate even with my weight. Now the FZ-09 I absolutely hate the looks. Sorry if anyone here likes it but since it came out I thought it missed the mark in looks due to the seat design like a dirtbike, headlight design, and the tank design. One dissapointing thing on the fz8 is I have been looking hard all over for custom painted or designed fz8's and I have hardly found anything for custom pics. Love the price though!

You're right about the FZ-07 it's definitely not going to have the grunt of the z1000 biut the fz8 would be close. I just wish the gas mileage was way better. The FZ8 gets the same mileage as the Z1000 so at least it's something I'm already used to but not going to lie the 58 mpg on the FZ-07 would be awesome! All in all though 39 mpg is still good gas mileage. I like the FZ8 since it came out just not the price at the time but now the dealer is offering this price hmmmmm?

I had a Z1000. The 8 has a very similar riding position. There are a shit load of proven and cheap mods to make it your own. I think the 7 you will find too small. One other thing to consider. If you buy the 8, you will have a ton of very cool like minded folks here to bust your balls and yell insults at you

I like the FZ07, personally. I think it has a lot of things going for it - good price, good looks, v-twin engine, ~58 mpg, lightweight (397 lbs wet).
Having said that, the fact that you can grab a brand new FZ8 with a proven engine and quality, plus the sheer amount of knowledge on this forum for less than the FZ07... you have a bike which you will never outgrow (I do think that the FZ07's 75hp is more than enough for any street riding you're planning on doing) save for a small handful of track riders on here.
You also say that you've ridden a Z1000 before... have you looked at the FZ1? After my 8 got totaled by a rear-ender, that's what I ended up going with. There are some unreal deals on FZ1's out there.
Ride 'em all man.

My test ride on the FZ-07 was great but I only got up to 50 mph since I was on a service road. Main concern is how it does going 75-80 mph on the interstate and does it still have plenty more balls to get up and go to pass someone at that speed. I read it's hitting around 120-125 mph tops so more than enough left over. I agree I like everything you just pointed out just as long as I don't look like an elephant screwing a monkey on the bike and it can hit interstate speeds no problem that's my only two concerns on the FZ-07. The FZ8 I know it will not be a problem but it's the gas mileage I don't care for? Actually I think that's the only thing I don't care for on it I know it fits me better.

The gas mileage was the main thing for why I went with the FZ8 instead of the FZ1 at first... plus I didn't think I needed the increased horsepower (I was right, coincidentally... but it's not like I don't enjoy the hell out of it). A 5 mpg difference seemed like a big deal to me at the time.
So I've done 6000 miles with the FZ1 so far, at an average of like 32 mpg. My 8 was getting maybe 37. FZ07 "says" 57mpg (likely 50 or so, once you fix the speedo and do actual riding) but we'll go with 57 for calculation sake.
At $4 a gallon: FZ1 - 187.5 * 4 = $750 FZ8 - 162.1 * 4 = $648 FZ7 - 103.4 * 4 = $413
You and I have much of the same problem, height-wise. I'm 6'4", so I really don't look good, or fit, on smaller displacement bikes even though they fit my style of riding better. The cool thing about the FZ8 was that it shared the same engine and frame as the FZ1, while still being a "smaller" displacement. That was perfect for me. Got the FZ1 the second time around due to the fully adjustable forks... which I should just replace the springs in anyway, just like the 8 - no big difference. Thinking about doing a naked conversion actually ($700 or so if you were wondering).

Where is the flower box?
On bike choice, depends on what you intend on doing with it. Cheap transport to work? the the Fz7, Weekend fun+ commuting? the Fz8, Weekend fun+commuting+big trips? The ZX14.

Haha, it got road rash. Welcome to the site mate. Of all the posts I've read in this thread, Mansack is on the money. The choice is ultimately yours but as a bigger human myself, the 8 or the 1 will 'fit' better. The 9 appears to be a very enjoyable and capable bike as well but when I sat on it, felt narrow and had a very crammed seating triangle for mine. The 7 I'd imagine to be very similar to the 9 in terms of fit, albeit the 9 would be a beast in comparison. Ride them all and whatever feels best... Good luck and enjoy

Yes that one. I take it it was beyond repair.

I'd take an 8 all day. It will feel like a street bike....not a dirtbike.
but it ultimately comes down to you man...motorcycling is a personal thing..that's what's great about it!
If mileage truly is an issue..get a 07
Want a great all around bike...get an 8
Want a beast get a 1
Want a dirtbike sized beast..get an 09
All of them need new headlights IMO. As well as suspension and tuning and exhaust..but you will run into those problems on any bike....but...the bigger you are on a smaller bike..the sooner you will need suspension and possibly power upgrades.
