Dennis' comments on what it means to be on this forum.... DO WE HAVE WINNER
With exception of CXA0897....... we are all pussies. This man has put more quality miles on his "little" 300. In one trip that I personally can do in many, many rides.
- Umyaya rode the wheels off his 8 (sold) and the Bandito (R.I.P). Now he rips on the GSXR.
- Jake2wheels tore into his bike with no knowledge of what he got hiself into manybtimes. Although he needs earplugs.
- Lots of you have changed machines.
- I learned electrics - and not to freak out about them for you dildos.
- Several of you rode across several states, meet up without internet strangers (werent murdered or raped...that we know of) and had excellent rides with stories and photos.
- DJ bought and sold more machines in 2 years than many will ever own in a lifetime.
- A Father and son duo came bashing through the doors, making their way into the forum, tore shit apart, consumed more "piss" than a frat house and told the tale like they discovered a new universe and had us all laughing......still laughing.
- Ian taught all of us to spray our bikes without a care in the worls.....
- So many stories.....+++++ So many experiences (good, bad, tragic) and contributors putts ng themselves out there, that I cant highlight all of you. Each story, comment, poke, a treat and each member a gem (in my book).
I average a meger 200 miles per weekend (pre neck fuckup) and rode the 8 exclusively for 2 1/2 years 36.5k miles), rain or shine, cold or roasting hot, to and from work (after the Xterra died and I got the Subaru). All over the lower part of Ca. whenever I damned well chose). I ride the speed limit (ha ha ha) I put the throttle WFO, ignore the brakes and run her on the edge of insanity. (When a cager is telling you about how they piss themselves at 85mph on the hiway.... in a straight line, casually mention that you frequently corner at 120+mph and give them that crooked smile....perspective??? I get to tell them I've done it at 180ish mph on an open class machine at Willow Springs's turns 8 and 9....and that I have fallen off a couple times too.. (i have gotten off in every turn at willow except 6 and only 4 turns as Sears Point, and 1 at Laguna) Hell, I paid good money to get out there and crash. Id do it again if my bones werent chalk........
Fuck em, Fuck em, Fuck em!!!!
We are here and we understand.
It really isnt about the mileage.... sitting and staring at your bike = +10 points, wash it just because it has collected dust = +5 points. Start a project that you have never done = +15 points (and when you dont royaly fuck it up, = +8 more points and bragging rights!!
- Drop it doing a slow speed turn (and dont get really hurt) tell us...= +5 points.
- Have a get off at speed, dust off, fix it and get back out there = +20 points.
- Start a project of idiotic proportions...knowing you are going to do it and the end will be a "Fuck yeah" moment...no matter who if anyone appreciates it = points to be determined.
Points are not redeamable and have no actual value except for you....only you assign the value and only you archive the score. And goofballs like us who encourage you regardless = Priceless. Fuck, I cant get strangers to even acknowledge me when I hold a door, smile, say hello (maybe I should wear pants more often without the Rob Zombie warlock X on my forehead).
Find a couple motorcyclists that you just met, 2 hours later.....its like you've known them forever and they will stop on the side of road to see if you need help fix it and wave farewell, till next time you meet.
Just love the act of gearing up, moving down the road, seeing things you haven seen, getting the crap scared out of you, feeling one of those unexpected but welcomed power up wheelies (tire hovers ng inches off the roadx toch down with a wiggle) as you exit a turn, rolling the throttle finding an unbreakable but satisfying rhythm on your favorite road, where it all falls into place and it feels amazing.
Its your bike. Your time, Your enjoyment.... the important stuff is the feeling that all of us who ride understand it and those that dont ride, well they will never know and it is pointless to try to tell them. -800 points for non riders.
If you can ride, ride, (or tinker) and cuss at it for hours and then smile for 1 second. Guess what, it is your time machine, therepistx dose of viagra, cause for your bankruptcy...whatever. The rest of the world expects and demands too much and you have a bike, and the world can suck it!
Do your thing. Sorry for the rant.....I have medical clearance and am riding shortly (Triple Digits. - my salute)
Best as always,
Dennis
